Diesel Technician

Interested in a career that keeps America moving? Than being a Diesel Technician may be a career for you. Diesel Technicians work on maintenance or repair of trucks/trailers, construction equipment, and agriculture equipment. Diesel mechanics use a variety of power and machine tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools, including pliers, socket and ratchets, and screwdrivers, are commonly used.

AVERAGE STARTING HOURLY WAGE: $18.00 – $25.00 + Benefits

AVERAGE HOURLY WAGE WITH EXPERIENCE: $25.00 – $32.00 + Benefits

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES: 2-year Technical Degree

Diesel Technician Career Paths

Diesel Option for Automotive Technology graduates

Lake Area Technical College Auto graduates who are interested in earning an AAS in Diesel Technology are eligible to transfer some previously completed courses. During the 18-month program, students will choose between the Diesel Truck or Tractor option. Diesel Power Technology

A great way to get your hands on some of today’s biggest, most automated machinery used in the agriculture industry! Students will take classes in electronic controls, GPS, introductory diesel, drive trains, hydraulics, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, harvesting equipment, service management and more to learn how to help farmers increase productivity and be more profitable. The Diesel Technology program has a rich history and a tradition of excellence. We train you on trucks/trailers, agriculture, and construction equipment that is “in-service” to make it “real.” The latest technology is incorporated into curriculum and training. Diesel Technicians diagnose, repair and maintain diesel engines, with many of those machines used for agriculture and construction operations.
